A very commonly used literary device in Gym Candy is the use of foreshadowing. The use of foreshadowing was prevalent from the start of the book when Mick was not on steroids and thought a few players from the opposing team were. Mick wondered what it would be like to do steroids but always told himself he did not want to be a cheater. Foreshadowing helped in keeping the reader attached to the book because it made the reader guess what was going to happen next, making them want to come back for more.
